Labor Day
September 2, 2019
Here it is Labor Day already. The summer is almost over. I hope that all of you out there are enjoying the beautiful weekend. Being the last long weekend of the season, we tend to do all that we can because tomorrow it may start raining, sleeting, or snowing. Well, not really. We shall enjoy many more warm sunny days before the cooler weather begins.
Speaking of weather, another storm blew through Zapata yesterday afternoon. Thunder and lightning; wind and a driving rain hit us pretty much unexpected. We stepped outside and beneath our “car port,” we watched and listened to the storm. Yellow Foot, our cat, came scooting across the road toward home, arriving just in time before the rain hit. Like all Zapata folks, we hoped it would rain hard and long; Falcon Lake needs to be replenished.
We didn’t do to much over the weekend. George went fishing Saturday morning. He caught one bass, decided it was too hot out on the lake and came home. Our cat was happy to see him back the boat under the cover. She either was excited to see his return, or she expected a mess of fish to be presented to me, who then would present her with a dish full of fish scraps. Like all cats, she meowed a few hellos, let George picked her up and nuzzle her a little bit, then jumped down and disappeared.
I love summer time, but there is something special about the arrival of autumn. The cooler temperatures, the colorful leaves, and even the smell in the air, excites one’s senses. I look forward to this time of year.
May you have good memories of spring and summer. And may we all look forward to autumn and winter with eagerness and delight.
The photo is of the Rio Grande River just south of Falcon Lake. That is Mexico across the water. A stone’s throw away.
